I appreciate how some of these much older hit singles were catchy but still had a point that they were trying to get across through the lyrics. New and popular songs nowadays always seem inappropriate and not suited to children and teenagers which I am sure make up a lot of their audience. It is good to see that old songs such as these are still revenant today and appreciated.

Wow, you only realize how much music videos have advanced until you see one of these classics. Imagine they had to launch a music video like this one now days.
Still the music is cool and even though it’s old it still sounds good.

  3. SFOMH88

This song takes me back. Such a catchy tune, and I agree with the song’s message!

  4. melanie

I actually was listening to that in my car the other day – it’s on my “80s” playlist and Wow! I can’t believe that was done in 1979! I would have thought it was done in the mid 80s!

    One of my faves!

  5. PlaysBeDamned

    Iconic, absolute pop song perfection.

  6. rldonah

This song was famous back in 1979 in England, but was pretty much unknown in the US until it debuted on MTV August 1,1981. This was actually the first music video to air on the newly launched channel. It’s a classic!

It was not ironic that they chose to play this song when they launched, because video, did indeed kill the radio star, much like the internet killed videos…oh, to go back to the days when i couldn’t wait to see the new videos on air on MTV after school, life was simple, it was beautiful…

  7. brianna

This is one of my favorite 1979 songs not only cause I love the super catchy beat and the quality in the video is good for the time period it was released.

  8. Van Mondido

Oh my God, this brings back too many memories! Probably way too ahead of its time that is why there were numerous cover versions including the one by Presidents of USA in 1998. Feel good music.
