Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (promoted theatrically as The Grinch) is a 2000 American family comedy Christmas film from Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment, based on the 1957 story of the same name by Dr. Seuss. It was the first Dr. Seuss book to be adapted into a full-length feature film. Because the film is based on a children’s picture book, many additions had to be made to the storyline to bring it up to feature-length, including some information about the backstory of the titular character. Most of the rhymes used in the book were used in the film, though some were slightly changed, and new rhymes were put in as well. The film also borrowed some music and character elements (such as the Grinch’s green skin tone) that originated in the 1966 animated TV special How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The film was directed by Ron Howard, produced by Howard and Brian Grazer, and starring Jim Carrey, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin, Molly Shannon and introducing Taylor Momsen as Cindy Lou Who.

Old and classic movie! I was two years old when I parents and whole family came over to watch this during Christmas. Due to the laughter and the childrens faces I remember seeing from my crib, it must have been a very good movie!

I have never been a fan of The Grinch That Stole Christmas, but this movie was amazing. Jim Carrey at his finest. It was funny and fun to watch. I was laughing through most of the movie and now have a love for the story. My friends and I around Christmas pull this movie out and watch it. We even have a tendency of repeating the lines randomly on occasion.

I remember my little brother watching this movie on a constant loop. In a week I could watch this movie six times. And it wouldn’t even be Christmas! I still prefer the older animated version, but with that being said this isn’t a terrible film. I still enjoy every Christmas time. Six times.

I used to watch the classic cartoon version of this every holiday season. It was practically a tradition! I was concerned when they made this remake that it would ruin the movie for me, particularly because I’m not that big of a Jim Carrey fan. However, I think they did an excellent job with it and Carrey’s portrayal of the Grinch was spot-on.

Still one of my favorite movies. I now have children of my own and they love this movie year around! We watch it every christmas eve too, so it’s basically tradition now! 🙂
